I undersatnd that E&O might not be a requirement, but what is the guarantee worth if a client has a $10,000 loss and you refund the search fee of $50.00?
If they sue, you may be in some serious trouble. I highly recommend the E&O, just in case.  I spend about $4,700/year on my E&O.  I have never had a claim, but I still think it is money well spent.  I sleep better at night.
I think it is also worth it from a marketing standpoint.  If your client has a choice between you and someone who is covered by an E&O policy, I'm sure they would feel more comfortable with the other person.  I'm not saying that you don't do great work, but anyone can miss something.
