Consider yourself lucky, I have not met one company in Maryland that will let me sub-contract title work with them without a copy of my $500,000 e&o policy.
Also, after taking law classes, I have now learned that, in Maryland, the e&o "umbrella" only covers "in house" abstractors (employees of the title company/law firm) and not sub-contractors.
I only know of 2 abstractors in the 7 counties in Maryland that I cover that are not insureed with e&o and they only work for specific attorneys.
If I were you, and this is just my 2 cents, I would get an e&o policy anyway, because if you make a mistake on title, they will sue you and take your home/car/dog, if you don't have enough money in savings to cover the loss of the title company.
This is the very reason for the e&o insurance industry. You are assuming a "risk".
