NJ doesnt need licenses.

There is a state program you could join, but they wont give you there certification unless you tell them who your clients are and you know 2 other people who they have certified to sign off on the application AND you have MANDATORY meetings AND you have to past their criteria AND their on the spot quizes AND they prefer larger/established companies over individuals. Can anyone spell
C-o-r-r-u-p-t.

What if a person does now what they are doing, wants to get properly certified or insured (unless the company they work for already insures them). They cant just becuase you dont know 2 other people, which those 2 other people arent going to tell you they are certified to begin with becuase you then become there competition.

I would prefer applying for a license anyday compared to that headache.

Yes, I agree that they are people out there that dont know what they are doing. But If NJ companies/abstractors could be more flexible, customer service oriented, have less overhead, use their staff efficiently, use the available technology to automate their processes which would ultimatly cut there turn times, then clients wouldnt feel the need to look for smaller independents that can fufill their requierments to begin with.

Remember its the companies that can also cut our rates, but it seems that the little guy always gets blamed. Since the independent can focus on a handful of counties or just one state, do the work themselves or with a smaller staff, have more time to implement avail. technologies to deliver the product to the customer, they ultimatly can charge less becuase they have less expense per order not to mention that most of the independents work comes from out of state which means there is more work to go around for them. Most of NJ companies do work for NJ companies = lots and lots of competition, even the type of work and its requriements to fulfill them is a different animal as well. In state tends to require more copies, larger searches and less time to complete them in as opposed to what comes from the national companies based out of state. The bigger companies gets so pissed off with individuals who do work online or get work from online sources they accuse us of undercutting them or not knowing what we are doing just becuase we dont sit at the courthouse all day long, dont have staff, and still get our work done right,,intime, and get the prices we want. Really what could be better than having the advantage of an additional 1, 2, or 3 hour window to get your searches in, send updates, or even look up the latest posts on SOT:)

As a side note. I used to type completed searches for another company and it peaved me to see what they were submitting and have the nerve to request payments of 50 and 75$ for. They were all handwritten, poorly handwritten at that, disorganized, many times incomplete, poor fax copies, and invoices never attached. Companies are not going to accept this kind of work any longer when they can get automated completed typed searches submitted via email for less $$.

Anyway thats my 2Cents.
Thanks for letting me vent.
