I am also disguted by title companies dictating their fees. I try to be as competitive as possible without doing it for free. My prices did not increase this summer when the refinance boom hit its highest and now that things are slowing down, they want us to lower our prices. I will not give in, there are enough title companies, if you are good in what you do and are fast and efficient, they will pay you what you are worth. I have found that to be true. Many people, not experienced in this field, began working in the title field thinking it is good money, they are so wrong. The headache of waiting at the mailbox for a check and title companies calling to "check status" 3 or 4 times a day gets old real fast.
Ask around in your area and see what other people are charging for the same services and be as competitive as possible.
