The DocuPen has to be able to roll down the page. Our books open from the top and there is a little curve in the book. This works OK because we can still keep the DocuPen in contact with the page the entire way down.

If your books open from the side, you might have a bit more trouble. You can always turn the pen vertical and scan across the page, but you would only get 8" of the length of the page.

If you can lay a pen down and keep it flat on the page, apply a little pressure, and slide it down the page keeping the full width of the pen in contact with the paper then it would probably work. Keep in mind the DocuPen has a bit more girth to it than an actual pen.

Without seeing your books, I really can't tell you for sure, but I hope this gives you an idea.
