I commend you for taking classes, doing your "homework" and going to seminars.
I also think that no other type of class and seminar can take the place of hands on training that you get working with attorneys/title companies. Some people set themselves up for lawsuits, where the atttorney will "take the farm and the first born" if you make a mistake.
I would like to see state regulated or a company like Fidelity National Title or Lawyers Title to mandate "abstractor licensing" to make sure that no one gets in the business without having a good deal of experience.
Please don't get on the attack with me. I would have liked to have seen the same thing when I first got started working in the title field. I am grateful that Maryland passed a law that will not let a "notary" do closings anymore. We had to take classes and pass an exam to become "licensed title producers".
I am actually looking to hire 2 people for my company. I have fired 2 people in the last 2 years.
One woman would not come to work and another made copies of my address book and began soliciting clients once she found out how much I made, even though I paid her $10 an hour, she rode with me and I paid for lunch, how dare her.
I am willing to help anyone.
