No one in their right mind could accuse you of being cold and heartless, Jay :-)
I'm not propsing that government is responsible for a 100% solution to the problem. I would like to see acknowledgement that there is a problem, proposals of possible partial remedies, and if it's the government's stance that it is up to the individual to retool and adapt to a changing landscape, let's hear them say that. I'll repsond that when we were all told we needed to upgrade our technology and computer skills in the 90's to serve in the new economy, many of us heeded the call, only to find our high-tech jobs evaporating in 2000-2001. Of course there were many other dynamics involved besides overseas competition...
If government has no role in helping us all along in our travels through life, then I want all my tax money back ;-)
