The best way we've found is to charge by the hour and set a 4 hour limit (or whatever time you want.) If it looks like you'll need more time, get an authorization from them. We always charge for copies because with so many possible transactions you almost have to pull copies to take back to the office and review them. About the only commercial searches we do is 60 year searches. These can be quite challenging. If you have the time, in my opinion, they are fun.
