I don't think the question was how many independent searchers there are, just how many title searchers in total.

I agree with Jeanine that the next census will probably reflect a lower number of title examiners and abstractors.  I base that completely on personal observation at my home county and from chats with friends in other counties.  Several of the large underwriters and regional agencies are using overseas products for residential work.

I also agree with Jeanine about competent commercial title searchers.  There are probably half or less competent commercial folks here in Central Ohio than there were just 10 years ago.  Just a couple are younger than 60.  This is the 28th largest metro area in the country and growing rapidly.
