I appreciate the posts regarding this subject and I understand the viewpoint of change and computer age and all that.

I think things may be set up a bit different here in NJ.

Most of the Title Searchers here do work for Title Companies such as Chicago Title, Lawyers, etc...and for the most part they are local Title comapnies, not the nationwide & regional offices I see discussed here on this board.
I have done work for First American also..they have since dropped me from thier " System" because my prices were too high( first clue).(this was the only out of state client I had)

Title searchers in NJ enjoy a nice living ( my business grossed over 85K last year)Now, with this company coming in, and with various clients and companies stating that DataTrace will be used once the title Plants are online, this cuts US, the title searcher out of the equation...like I said, the majority of the searches will be completed in the office by $8 an hour employees.

That's the concern...who the hell wants to work for peanuts?

I understand that there will always be a need for a searcher who has vast experience to work on the occasional big project, but the VOLUME will not be there.

Also, as far as records already being online....we have several counties that have online documents, but for the most part they are only recent documents. The older documents that are indexed online still need to be retrieved at the courthouse.

DataTrace will have ALL the documents with scanned images online, for quick retieval...that's where the need for experienced searchers goes dow the drain.

example: Order comes in from attorney....order is given to $8 an hour employee.....$8 an hour employee goes to the site, fills out a fill in the blanks type request sheet and out pops ALL the documents in the chain of title for 20 years.....$8 an hour employee takes documents to Title Examiner for prooof reading , etc..

That's the scenario I was given by some very high level management in two major title companies here in NJ.

As far as eductaion and adapting ....my resumes are out for a Title Examiners position.....Starting pay?.....$35,000 That's why I'm pissed off!

I'm also exploring other career fields

Time will tell
