My attorney happens to own a title company. He says I can have one for up to 3 years in Maryland.
Most states do not seem to understand or do not notice that someone shares their years of experience
of with someone and they can go out and take what they have learned for their own monetary gain.
If I lived in a state that did not recognize the do not compete contract, I would either 1) hoard up all of the business for myself that I can and train my husband, children and pets or
2) move out of state
I can't see training someone for 6 months to do this type of work and then they think they know it all when actually they know NOTHING about the title industry. That is almost like a new notary soliciting business to do loan signings without any experience, I seem them everywhere. I have to clean up their mess.
I have seen too many "know it alls" in the county courthouses and on internet sites for abstractors and notaries that don't know what they are doing and they are "independent abstractors" or closing agents. Who in the world told these people that they were qualified? They must not be telling the truth to the title companies when they are soliciting the business. Wake up people, this is one of the most stressful jobs out there as far as liability and not everyone is "qualified".
