Lorretta, that's exactly right. I decided to say something because I was pretty naive going in to this. There is another person who well known in the notary community who came out with a course on how to expand your notary business. She has some decent marketing ideas but the book she just published has a section on title abstracting. It was something she said about title abstracting several months ago that had me thinking it would be a good way to expand our business. She makes it sound so "simple.” When we first started "working" we realized very quickly how little we knew. We have spent months hanging out in the county clerks office learning as much as possible. I have asked questions of any one who will listen and answer. Dave and I have worked hard and we feel much more confident and competent. The thing is there are far more people I have encountered who are not doing what we have done. I am really upset with the original notary (who is also a paralegal) and these people who are touting their online course. I hope that when and if this association comes about the issue of training will be taken seriously. Lorretta I never went into this thinking I was going to make lots of money and bail. My husband and I are simply trying to build a business and some security. We like title searching, we find it interesting and challenging. I appreciate your taking the time to reply to my post. If it prevents just one person from making the same mistake it is worth the embarrassment on my part.
