In my opinion, sounds like someone who is real insecure about their abilities or they have had problems keeping client in the past. Some people try use ignorance to stiffle competition.

Its also possible that someone actually did steal a client out from under her. But what you said is true. If the person does a quality job, then its pretty hard for someone to steal the work out from under them. I actually had this experience last year with a client I research mortgage data for. Another company was subcontracting work for them for a couple of counties and was doing a shotty job at it. I was asked to do some work for the same areas and within a month he yanked the contract from the other company. (Of course it didnt help their case when I turned in more data in a week than they did the prior month...but you get my point)
