Robert and Helene,
I can tell you a little about both states since we have independant abstractors in both of them.
Washington has independents there, it is just very difficult to find and/or keep them in King county. We cover most counties in that state. Several counties are on line including King county. But their copies have "UNOFFICIAL COPIES" emblazoned accross each page. From what we've been told by several different abstractors is their parking is very difficult and if they can find it, it costs a lot.
Montana has independent abstractors there as well. We hire independent contractors there too. There are so any counties there and everything is so rural and antiquated that it is very difficult to find abstractors there. The few abstractors in Montana charge more than we can pay. If you are going to Montana, I am sure we can set you up with something. Vendors beg us to do all counties. Of course, they don't want to pay what it is worth to get the info and docs.
Thanks, hope that gives you some information on those two states anyway.

Thanks,
Sharon
