Hi Sam...I understand what you are saying too. After having been in the title industry for over twenty years..and twelve on my own as an abstractor - I think the industry is taking a new direction. Today's world is such a wierd combination of technology and old world "paper". And as we speak, our world gets smaller and more compartmentalized. We are in the Age of Specialization. A bunch of little parts becoming a whole. Abstracting may well become its own little part. Many companies are downsizing people - hence salaries and benefits that no longer cut into profit. Their bottom line (as is every business) is the dollar - and if they can produce it more efficiently without any effort on their behalf - they will. What I am saying is that we are fast becoming the "way to go" rather than on "the way out". What is becoming of utmost importance - is technology. The access must be there for quick response - in a quality manner. Even States going online - and believe me, there are a number of Counties in Missouri that are getting there -some for a fee, and some not - have issues one encounters when trying to obtain a title search. Some information just cannot be obtained online. Some documents are just not available. Some banks/lending institutions want to do their own "title" work without the added expense of additional personnel. Some Banks/Lending Institution have tried doing it themselves - and find that someone motivated by completing more jobs hence more money is more efficient and of better quality than an 8-5 employee who just wants to put in their day. I think the title industry is on the verge of major restructuring - in its production, its products and its future. I am fortunate enough to have been a part of the "old way" and still in training for the "new way" - I think its exciting and at the same time, frightening. The younger generation will be totally different "examiners" with a product that twenty years from now I won't recognize. Marketing is not one of my strengths; but I think you, along with many others, will find a way to merge into this ever changing industry.

Ellen
