The length of time it takes to complete commercial
work is kind of unpredictable depending on the
complexity of the search. If it should take longer
than the time you estimated for your client, you may
find yourself having to turn away other work. I have
found two reasonable methods to handle the situation
depending on your client's flexibility of budget.
You can charge your client a negotiated hourly rate to
compensate you both for the work you are performing
and for the work you have to turn away, or if your
client does not have the right funding for this,
explain the situation to them and negotiate a longer
period of time to complete the search.
You can then work on it in between other searches, and
will not have to turn any work away.
