Hiya Miriam!

I feel your pain with HP All In One machines. When I used to sell computers I got more returns on those than anything else.

HP is good for printers, are getting better with their digital cameras and since they merged with Compaq are quite good with their computers. (Who knew too semi-good companies could merge to make one good one? First time I've seen it happen.) For scanners, their optics still need some work, and the HP rep told me that himself. Cannon's optics are rather good. Their background in making film cameras have made them especially wonderful with scanners and digital cameras, but their printers still need some work. For my money, I'd take a brother All In One any day. I've used them in many offices without a problem and had far fewer returns on them than any other machine when I was selling them. May I suggest the MFC-8420? It costs about the same as the machine you are looking to replace, has a flatbed scanner for better document quality (it sheetfeeds to the flatbed so you don't have to put the documents on the glass one at a time), scans up to legal size which is perfect for those pesky deeds , and includes a printer/fax/pc fax/copier. You can check out the features and specs at http://ww.brother.com/usa/fax/info/mfc8420/mfc8420_fea.html

Also, one thing that gets overlooked a lot is buying seperate machines. If you have the office space, this is something I almost always recommend over buying an all in one machine. For two reasons. 1. You'll get better quality for about the same price if you get seperate machines. 2. If you have seperate machines and, say, your printer breaks, your office isn't completely out of commission. You still have your scanner/fax/copier/etc.

Let me know if I can be more help.
