Marc,
I disagree with your point, for several reasons.
Now, I can only speak for Massachusetts, for which is usually the last state to adopt any standards or to change. I believe the ability to have the information online is great, but it comes with a great caution.
One still has to check the indexes and the books, for I have seem changes made in the indexes and in the books and vice versa. No all registries are like that! However, there has been a few,for the most part the information is usually correct. The other thing I am Paralegal by trade and learn long time ago and taught this way as well. Never trust anything unless, you see it for yourself, always check the books!
So, unless they plan to put the actual books in its' entirety online with all its' margin references (they too also can be wrong). I do not see that we be out of a job. Maybe in fifty years or so as time go forwards and images are no place online, for a full title in Massahusetts requires fifty years (1954) and only very small have images that go back that far online! Most images don't become available until the late 90's all you really get is the abstracts!
See, the problem is the counties do not have budgets to put the older books online;especially, the busier registries. So, I would not worry about being out of a job. I be more worry about
Jusy my two-bits!
