Sorry David,
I fail to see how limiting membership in a professional association is going to make all of your competition disappear. Eliminting competition isn't what a professional association is about... it's about improving the level of knowledge and awareness among the group to improve the quality of services within the industry.
The way to ensure your success in the industry is to provide a high quality product at a fair price. Healty competition is a good thing, it forces us to continually improve our services and maintain competitive prices. I don't worry about the competition... there are other abstractors out there that charge less than we do, but we offer an excellent product, reliable service, and our prices are still competitive. I feel that my clients realize the value of our expereince and the thorough nature of our work.
Further dividing the membership based on what you feel a qualified abstractor should be would be meaningless... those not allowed to join aren't going to go away and I fail to see what benefit there would be for any of us.
I am disappointed that you would even suggest that I am in this to make money. I already have around $1,000 tied up in the association and I have never asked to be reimbursed from membership dues (and I won't). I am doing this because I think the abstractors need to have a united voice and there is a lot of good that can come from the association.
Whether or not you share our vision, or join the association, I wish you all the best.
~Robert.
