WHOA DAVID!!!
First of all, this is a NON-PROFIT association, don't believe me, then check out the paperwork filed in the State of Ohio. Robert, myself and others have spent "OUR" time away from "OUR" businesses and "OUR" families and "OUR OWN" money to get this association rolling, so just maybe we think this assciation is important. The conference has NO attendence FEES for the attendees. So the idea of Robert and myself (and anyone else connected to the association) making a lot of money from this is a bunch of HOG MANURE. (hog farms smell 10 times worse than cow farms)
Second, the "so called problem" of inexperienced fly-by night abstractors has always been there. Yes it came to a head during the refi-boom, but no one has done anything about it except to hope that it would go away. GUESS WHAT? It didn't go away. People want to become abstractors and not just for the "easy money". They like the work and the research. Just like any other business there will always be competition by experienced and newer companies. So you promote your experience and quality because if you start bad mouthing your competition you will only drive that client to someone with a lower price, even if it comes back to bite them later. Ever take time for just a moument that a new person to the business might have a good idea? Think about it.
Stand-by for part 2. Jay
