These are all issues that will be debated over in committees, but it is my understanding that the association will promote the value of experience; it will still be upto the client to determine how much expereince they require in their abstractors. To help them I believe the Membership Committee will offer certification to those abstractors who can show that they meet some minimum criteria. The committee will determine what that is, but will probably include references, E&O insurance, and a minimum number of years of expereince.
The idea behind including everyone in the association is to help everyone raise the quality of their work, expereinced and novices alike, and build a large base of members to support the association to tackle issues that effect all of us in the abstracting business, such as overseas title plants, E&O rates, and licensing issues. It will also serve as a channel of communication to keep everyone informed of changes in our industry, specific to abstracting.
This is all MY vision for the association, I don't intend to speak for everyone. Once the officers are elected, and the committess are formed, everyone can work together to decide the best course of action for the association.
Thanks for the question,
Robert A. Franco
