I have done both online searches and courthouse searches. One of the issues that I'm running in to with many counties across the country is that the exact same system that is online for the general public to use is the same system that the courthouses are now employing in the building for the abstractors to use. Take the 5 boroughs in NYC for example - either I can sit at home and use the ACRIS system... or I can take the subway all the way over to the courthouse, stand on line, get yelled at by a clerk, finally get to a computer and use the exact same system...
While I understand the company's point and do, for the most part, agree.. it has to be taken into account that there are many areas of the country where the courthouses have completely replaced their standard indexes with the computer searches that are accessible over the internet. Therefore, you are going to get the exact same information whether you are sitting at home in your pajamas with a fresh cup of coffee, or down in the courthouse elbowing another abstractor out of the way because your client wants that search rushed since the county has left you with no other way to search.
