Here in Virginia, the state began it's fiscal year July 1 with an increase of recording fees of $2.00 on ALL recorded documents. That additional $2 makes it now $5 and that money goes to a 'technology fund'. Each clerk's office here will be receiveing back their '$5' per document recorded to develop technology that is to be used for getting their offices online by the year 2008. Our general assembly here wants every clerk's office to have their indexes and documents imaged onto a system so that anyone willing to pay a monthly access fee can then retrieve the information without going to the clerk's office.
As of right now only 2 are online and they are the exact same indexes you use at the courthouse so there is no difference in information.
I don't see any way of fighting this.
