In addition to working at a title company/for a title attorney, I'd also suggest a small stint at a nationwide title search company. I'm sure there are those who will disagree with me on this, but in those companies you work not only with the banks/title companies but also the abstractors themselves. It's a bit like being thrown to the wolves, but you get so much experience in such a short time that I believe it's worth it.
