Hi Doug,
We weren't responding to the demands of our clients. Instead we were responding to our own demands for performance. It just didn't make sense to me for our clients to have to wait until all orders were completed at the end of the day to receive their orders when they had been completed hours earlier.
We don't move any clients order in front of another client. We just return the searches immediately upon completion. Also, we know immediately when an order is received and don't have to wait until the end of the day to see what orders may have been sent in while we were away from the fax machine.
Our clients do seem to understand that some orders are more troublesome and take longer. But now we are able to respond quickly in letting them know the reasons an order might be delayed. We just annotate their original fax and let them know the reason the order may be delayed.
We don't rush the execution of the order. Each order takes whatever time it may take for a thorough and accurate examination. We deliver the completed from the field rather than waiting to fax it back at the end of the day.
As to the motivation for wanting orders returned quickly? I have always assumed it is just the level of performance they want to provide their clients.
