In most of the counties I cover, mail-in documents get recorded as soon as the county recorder receives them.  However, walk-ins get priority in that they are time-stamped on the spot while you wait.  In the few counties where there is a backlog, walk-ins do get priority over mail-ins.  And, yes, mail-ins are allowed to sit until the clerk gets to them.

Three counties in my service area even return the docs on the spot.  In most cases, however, we provide a post-paid return envelope to send the docs back to the client as soon as they are on record.

I hope that answers your question.  Not to be a smart-alec, but I have a couple of questions for you.  If a clerk is too busy to record your docs while you wait, what do you tell your client?  What is the advantage in them sending their docs to you to record?
