I don't have the exact terms here ( I could look them up, but don't have time right at the moment), but we are metes and bounds states and the states out west made all their deeds into squares/rectangles, etc. We don't have sections and the other terms in those questions.  We have properties that look like puzzles in themselves.  I'll have to look up those terms for you (I think you are the same since we are so close).  Pleases correct me if I am wrong about the western states.  I just remember reading that somewhere along the line on a home continuing education course.
