I don't know if this belongs in this thread, or should be a new one, but here goes.  Data Trace just reached an agreement with a local company, Recodat, to provide go-forward management of Recodats' title plant.  Recodat was formed, as I recall, in the late seventies, early eighties, and has a data base of indexing and document retrieval going back to 1975.  The five largest title agencies in central Ohio all contributed to the formation, putting starter policies back to the fifties into the system.  Non-owners of Recodat can buy these policies for $35.00.
I spoke with a gentleman from Data Trace earlier today about the upcoming changes in the local system.  I think that they will do much to improve the way that this on-line indexing is done, and all the major companies here will continue to rely on it for the majority of their work.
Locally, we have dealt with computer generated indexing, albeit rapidly changing for twenty plus years.  The point is, this is the future.  Some of you are just now facing this challenge.  The good thing is that the documents still need exammend.  You still need to cast a critical eye to the indexing done by an outside company, just as you do the indexing done by the county.  The low liability, simple equity search virtualy disappeared here five years ago.  However, if you know what you are doing, there is plenty of work left, and a good profit in it.  Doug
