Well, you got me started with your question. The general consensus seems to be an awakening understanding that public records does not equal publication worldwide on the internet. Many are also coming to understand that the word "public" was never intended to mean the worldwide public but reffered to the local constituents of the government entities.

For now most of these battles are being fought over internet access to civil and criminal court records but they were some of the first to go online. It seems many of our legislators are awakening to the fact that they may be harming the very people who elected them.
