Hi, Lisa and Judy!
I'll answer your questions in order. First, we make sure our clients know our prices up front...if they like it, fine; if not, they are free to find another abstractor. We are confident enough in the quality of our services to the point where we do not need to "beg" for work.
Second, we make it clear that we are in business to make a living. Churches and fire halls are non-profit organizations; we are not. LOL.
In three-and-a-half years, we have had but one client tell us that "we will not pay for copy fees higher than what the county court charges you." Our response was to tell them, "OK, send your own people down here (from upstate New York) to get them yourselves". That's like saying that I can get those $250.00 basketball sneakers for $20.00; it's theoretically possible, but only if I go to the factory in China where they're made!! Needless to say, they saw my point.
To answer your question, Judy, we charge a flat fee per search for all of our counties which is based on average of our high and low costs, regardless of distance. We do offer discounts based on monthly dollar volume, but only if we get the volume that month. That's how we reward customer loyalty.
Good questions, thanks for asking!
Regards,
Scott
