Undoubtedly there is plenty of this going on. The The large national companies controlling the volume of work and the flow of assignments to abstractors, etc., and setting the abstractors against each other to get the available work. The first response of the abstractor is to reduce his price. What if the opposite approach were used...improve his services for the same price. The problem has become worse with the outsourcing of the work to the third world countries who think that they can impose price reductions on the abstractors. A united effort is needed to stop the problem, but it has to be done through legal procedures. The prohibition against price fixing is there to promote competition in a free enterprise system. If you can find a way to compete and retain your desired prices, you have accomplished your goal in compliance with the law.All of us participating in a single organization which has created a better service for an acceptable price would seem to accomplish this. If we are all shareholders in the same corporation, and the signgle corporation promotes our skills in a manner that is attractive there does not seem to be a problem. The corporation is not entering into an agreement with others to control prices. It is only representing the interests of its shareholders.
