I would love to raise my fees. I have never done it. With costs going thru the roof, it would help alot. But then, there goes all the business. To the abstractor down the street who will do the same work for $2-5 less.
We have talked about this once before. We cannot make standard pricing through out the country. I know here where I am, current owner searches go for anywhere between $35-50 and somewhere else in my state in northern Virginia, they are $60-85 for the same type of search. And I have heard of them being as high as $100 in parts of the country. Why would someone who charges $75 want to do them for $50 and why would I raise my fee to $50 and loose clients.
I just can't see it happening.
Now what I can see is an organization making a standard guideline for how the searches are done, turn around times made better and costs being cut somehow. To make everyone have to abide by the same standards in quality would definitely make a difference. But I just can't see it effecting the fees.
But that is just my 2¢
