You are absolutely correct - we are the essence of out sourcing. When companies decided to out source the title search, they came to us. Just goes to show you that "out sourcing" isn't always negative, it depends on which side of the fence you live (so to say).
I agree with you that the worst part of it is the ease at which anybody with Internet access can garner information from our public records. I was surprised to see that documents containing full legal name, address and social security numbers were available on-line. Our county has apparently not placed images of Federal Tax Liens on-line because they contain SS numbers (I assume this is the reason), but there are plenty of other documents with the same information available. It took less than five minutes to find dozens of them.
This access is sometimes convenient for us, but that means that it is also convenient for anyone, anywhere in the world, to get the same data. I wish they would restrict access to those with a legitimate need to know, but that would be difficult to say the least.
