It's time for abstractors to stop taking shit from these companies!
On past due invoices I charge 18% which is the limit here in NJ without becoming usurous.
I've only had to do it twice in 17 years , but these were cases where my initial attempts to conatct by phone and mail had been ignored.
What I did was just kept calling, sending e-mails, faxes ..you name it.....once a week .One took 3 months and the other took 6 months.
Both paid the invoice plus the interest.
As far as cancelled orders....I charge....period.
You take my time ....you pay..... that's it....I'm getting my money one way or the other.
I don't deal with national companies, I've found that I was just a number and it was hard to establish relationships with e-mails and faxes. Plus I'm not real excited being asked to cut my prices every 3 months when some new guy comes in with fees that barely pay my coffe tab.
I deal only with companies in my state, which I have found to be a stress free relationship.(relatively speaking)
I'm able to talk to the secretaries and title officers about their kids, the weekend, etc....which I found to be the key to holding on to my customers for the past 17 years...All the companies that either went out of business or left me in search of cut rate fees were nationals.
Can you tell that I have an issue with these nationals?
Anyway, this is just my view of things
