I agree with Kevin. If we have completed the search we charge for it, even if it has yet to faxed off. I have had clients call to cancel the search and I will have them on the phone and call my abstractor on the cell phone and ask them if they have completed the search. If they have not I will cancel it and let the client know that it is cancelled. If the search is already completed I will let the client know prior to hanging up that the work is done and is payable. My clients have never had a problem with this and understand the nature of the travel time and that the work is already done.
