Interesting article but does not apply to all states and in all counties. For example, Collin County, Tx in many instances if the name of the corporation is part of the name of a person it is last name first, first name and then the rest of the corporate name. All other corporate names that do not include a person's name starts normally. However, this is something that if missed by a name search would be picked up by the legal search - a capability that online searches do not have - our forever cross-reference tool savior. Each county also abbreviates names of management, corporation, investment, etc in different ways and if completely spelled out would give you a "no find." That is why no one could sit me down at a computer in PA and tell me to do a search in Texas, Colorado and Arkansas (random picks) - I would tell them they were nuts - I don't know what their little quirks in indexing are in each county and each state.
I also try to find documentation of the corporation on file and see who the owners are and run their names just in case. d/b/a's well that is a given they are personally liable so they have to be checked. But then again, I don't think anyone should be an abstractor that doesn't have extensive legal and real estate background - unless you know what to look for - you never know what you missed or didn't miss.
And oh, by the way, my insurance company did state you could insure yourself for personal liability real cheap - 1,000,000 for about 100.00 a year - that might not be a bad idea for anything that could pass to us personally.
