I disagree, that all clients will choose the cheapest abstractor. I have clients that use us exclusively even though we do charge more than some of the others around here. We have a good relationship with our clients and they know that we do quality work. There is more to an abstract than the price.
I have seen some of the "cheaper" abstractors, who have undercut our prices, and they don't even touch the lease and miscellaneous books. They rely exclusively on the computer for clerk of court records, and they don't go back far enough for that - they are short by 2 years. Our local clients see this too, and that is why they use us, they know that we are thorough. The national clients don't know what goes on at the courthouse, so they only look at the price.
Its a shame that the national business is so far removed from the process that they don't know what's going on with their work. Local clients are more in touch with process and the quality, which is why we prefer to work with them.
Best,
