I know what you mean...I've gotten that line a few times, and EVERY time it was because they found someone else to do the work at a cheaper price
OR (here's the theory)
When I first started looking to do work for national companies, I noticed, and you're all familiar with, the "Abstractor Application". You fiil in all the info and they keep it on file, etc...
Now what I think these companies do is get as many abstractors into their "system" as possible as to have a "stable" of abstractors at their disposal.
So when ever there is a need for a price cut .....simple , they go to the hundreds of applications that are on file and find someone who quoted X rate, as long as it's lower than Y rate they are paying now. Then all of a sudden...out of the blue...abstractor B is now getting orders faxed to them without so much as a phone call.
It's happened to me...I started getting faxes from companies that I had submitted applications to 1-2 years prior. They just start showing up...these companies didn't even call me to see if I was available, if my rates changed, if I was still even in business!
So I took one thing away from that ....with the national companies, you are just a number...a slot on a fax speed dial that is easily reprogrammed for the next schlub waitnig in line.(not calling YOU a schlub).
I can't do business that way... I need to relate to my clients and talk to them, get to know them...in my experience , the environment is such that , that does not happen when you are dealing with a national company.
Just my view
