Just be glad you are not paying the fees in Philadelphia.  There it costs $226.75 for a mortgage and $256.75 for a deed, no matter how many pages you have in the document.  Then you have real estate transfer taxes of 1% to the State and 3.278% to the City.  If you are recording a nominal deed, and its not to an exempt relative, church or government agency involved in the transaction, you get taxed on the equalized assessed value of the property.  Yet real estate is still booming there.
