I agree with you that you should never allow a single client to reach a point that they can make or break you. My father was an attorney in general practice, and when I started my company he told me to never allow a client to represent over twenty percent of my work. That way, losing a client would never kill you, and you always have the option of cutting them off if you are troubled by their payments or ethics.
