I have always been leary of online searches, and feel that in order to do an accurate and reliable search, one must physically go to the courthouse and have access to ALL of the records. Kurt is correct when he said that the courthouse records themselves contain many mistakes.( Any of you who have read my prior post know how I feel about this!) But, if this is so, transfering the records onto the internet is just allowing for that many more mistakes to be made. I do believe that there are many ways that you can use online records to your advantage, especially if it is primarily used for doc. retrieval. It can save you alot of money sometimes. But, as for a title search, it's just not enough. There is no way to really check yourself.
I have always tried to keep my company updated, and I   know that I will have to go along with the wave of the future. Here in Louisiana, we sometimes have no choice. Some of the courthouses have gotten rid of the index books, and have gone completely online. I can't begin to go tell you how upsetting this has been to me, but who am I but the lowly abstractor. So here I am, riding this wave , just wondering if there will come a day when the force of it it will pull me under.
