I have been in the business for 8 years and the national companies have not accepted a price increase in the 8 years I have been doing it. They have actually gone done $10 or more since then. There is no loyalty. I had a company call me to do a search for them, they needed to have it done the same day because they said they had to get rid of the abstractor in that county. I did the search and she promised more work (they are the exclusive title company for Citifinancial in several counties in Maryland).
I jumped for the chance to prove to them that I could complete the job and I did. Guess what, no more work. They needed the search done and their "primary abstractor" could not do it that day so they used me to get it done and I am sick of those type of title companies.
There is one company that alot of abstractors on this site rave about but I have had them do the same thing to me. They call, need a search done quickly and I would do it, just to try to get them to use me, they never call me unless their abstractor cannot come through for them on that particular day. I even tried to go to their vendor manager about it but have gotten no reply when he said he would call me back. If I am going to be a "backup abstractor", tell me. I decline their work most of the time now.
I have several attorneys and local title companies that use me and understand the cost may vary from time to time due to many things. 
I know what I have to shell out, we spend about $200 a week in gas, which may not be much to some abstracting companies, we are all in this together, I just wish that some of the national title companies (notice I did not say all)  would work with us and not against us.
