Re: More hate mail...Business is Business - Jay Duncan/MO

First I want to thank Robert for an outstanding web-site.  No other listing web-site has the traffic nor the results that I've gotten from all the other sites I've signed up for put together.

As with any business it costs money to make money.  Advertising  and marketing is the one thing that abstractors in general do very little of.  We have a tendency to be comfortable with the business we have.  This was fine during the refi boom, we all had plenty of business, but now that it is over we are learning the meaning of advertising and marketing.  If we don't market or advertise or grow our business it will fail.

I have a small web-site and it does cost money to set it up and maintain it.  The SOT web-site is much more complicated and requires so much more maintenance, which cost money.  So expecting Robert to continue to offer it for free, with all the additions he has made to it at his cost, is unrealistic and unfair.  Business is business.  If you were completing all your searches for free, you would not be in business very long.  Robert continues to improve the site with addition of Jarrod and now SOT-TV, good luck finding another listing site that offers that much.

SOT is a major reason my business has double in less than 1 1/2 years and I've opened an additional office.  Yes it has cost money with the enhanced listing, banner ad and now the subscription.  I consider this money well spent since I've gotten 100 to 1 return on my investment dollar.

SOT has so much to offer and has offered as it has grown.  SOT was the launching platform for NALTEA which has already double membership since the first conference last June and just completed its second conference.

Business is business.  What works for one doesn't always work for another.  To the person who wrote the e-mail, I'm sorry your advertising campaign didn't work out with SOT when it has worked so well for so many others, I wish you well on your next campaign.

Robert again I say thank you for your site, you, Slade and Jarrod keep up the good work.

Jay Duncan
