You did the right thing. From a marketing stand point you would have lost money on the deal. Any profit would have gone into your gas tank.We have an area that we know we can service at our current pricing structure. Although the cost of gasoline is pushing the envelope of the structure. When we are asked to service an account outside of our normal marketing area, we explain that we are willing to complete the search, but that there is an additional surcharge for travel expenses and to compensate for business we would have to turn away to accomodate their search. Some times it works.
