As far as recording releases go, I do not collect the filing fee for the release because the lenders add that fee in to the borrowers payoff amount because they record it themselves.  I do however prepare the release and send it with the payoff check with a letter askeing them to properly exucute it and record it and have it returned to my office with a SASE.
Now if I have an old unreleased mtg, I have the lender send me the release then I will collect the filing fee because I am going to be the one who records it.
