I have seen photographs of Sunken Road and of the aftermath of the battle. Supposedly Antietam was the bloodiest battle of the war. I have heard a doctor say that even with modern medicine today there would probably be very little that could be done to treat a wound from a "miniball". It was designed to tumbull end over end when it left the muzzle of a musket. If it struck someone in the shoulder, he could very easily have lost the whole arm.
