We used to do these for $20. Often we had to drive to the municipal court, as well as check the county court. We found that some of the counties would not let us near the records, you had to ask them to search for the name and wait for them to get you copies. There were many times that we ended up making two trips because they were too busy to do it right then.
When the clients started finding people to do them for $5, we just quit doing them. It wasn't worth it. This is kind of what is happening to the title search - the price is dropping to the level where some searches aren't worth doing.
There is a homeless guy that likes to hang around outside the courthouse, maybe I will pass along his name to these clients who don't want to pay a reasonable fee. Sure he talks to himself and he "don't see too good anymore", but I'm sure he would be happy to have the work. The new price for a current owner search - one pack of generic cigarettes.
Best,
Robert A. Franco
