Those are very good points Wanda.  I just want to express "why" I chose to join NALTEA... hopefully others will express their thoughts on why they joined and we can start a dialog.

I didn't join because of anything I expected to "get" from NALTEA.  Though there are certainly benefits that I think all of our members will get soon - such as an E&O program specifically for us, training and information, and recognition as a professional - I didn't expect these to happen overnight.  I realize that it will take a lot of time to get these things organized.

I joined because I believe that NALTEA can have influence over the future of our industry.  If all of the abstractors listed on Source of Title joined, NALTEA would have the voice of over 2,300 abstractors and we could begin to discuss the problems we face, as well as those of the title industry.  We would have an organization that would be able to communicate with the people who make policy decisions.

$200 to me is just $200; but to NALTEA it could be $460,000 (if everyone listed here joined).  That money can help develop marketing and awareness campaigns for our industry.  It can help develop training programs and fund research that can be shared with legislatures, GSEs, consumer groups, etc.  We could demonstrate the importance of the work we provide and the value of our service.

Not to sound "corny," but joining NALTEA isn't about what NALTEA can do for you, its about what you can do for NALTEA.  In the long run, the stronger the association, the better off we will be.

While I realize that a lot of people are thinking "I'll wait until NALTEA has something worth $200 to offer before I join," you must realize that it is a "catch-22."  If everyone waits - nobody will benefit.

Remember, NALTEA is a not-for-profit corporation.  It is not "a part of" Source of Title.  NALTEA is a completely separate entity with its own elected leadership.  Consider it an investment in the future of your industry.

I hope I have inspired some interest in NALTEA... I know that many of the members share my view of the potential for the association.  If you want to learn more, visit the
NALTEA Web site and download a membership application.

Kind regards,
Robert A. Franco
