Hey Scott,

I believe that the Presario 900 has the older USB 1.1 standard.  USB 1.1 transfers data at a maximum of 12 Mbps (Mega-bits per second).  USB 2.0 has a maximum transfer rate of 480 Mbps. 

You could add a USB 2.0 PCMCIA Card, if you have an available PCMCIA slot.  The cards are probably around $25-$30.  Just do a google search for "PCMCIA USB 2.0."

I had an older laptop with the same problem.  I ended up getting a new laptop before I tried the PCMCIA card.  I checked out the options, though, and it looks like a possible solution.

Guess this makes me a "technogeek"...
