I agree the automated phone system can be very frustrating.  I really don't mind picking what department to go to, BUT, beyond that I want to talk to a real person.  In some systems, I discovered, if you hit zero quickly several times it will send you straight to real live person, but other times it will either tell you make another selection or hang up on you.
